Anderson Silva will fight GSP

Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC has stated that the UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva is on the verge of signing a new deal with the Mixed Martial Arts promotion and he will take on both the UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones as well as the UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Speaking to the assembled media personnel, White stated that the UFC fans can look forward to both of these fights before the Brazilian finally decides to call it a day from the sport.

He went on to state that it is almost a matter of time before Anderson puts pen to paper to a new deal with the promotion, adding that he wants to fight big fights – the likes of GSP and his own compatriot Jones. Georges St. Pierre will take on Nick Diaz for the UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 158 in March at Montreal. It was widely speculated after the Canadian’s last fight against Carlos Condit that he would take on Anderson Silva next after the Brazilian was seen at ring side for the match at UFC 154, which saw Rush return to action for the first time in almost 2 years.

White stated that it was GSP himself who wanted the fight against Diaz. He added that he had been away from the Octagon for quite some time, almost over a year and had that knee surgery as well.

He went on to state that the best thing about Anderson Silva, who is arguably the greatest Mixed Martial Arts fighter of all time, fights at 185 lbs in Middleweight, a category that falls bang in the middle of the Welterweight and the Light Heavyweight division, and hence, the matches against Jones and St. Pierre gets a lot easier to make.
